Never mind Kelly Osbourne, who’s been angling for the job: Two-time champ Cheryl Burke may be the next Dancing with the Stars cast member to play Roxie Hart in the Broadway production of Chicago. Usmagazine.com is reporting that the 25-year-old dancer “is currently in negotiations” to play the Merry Murderess on the Great White Way.
“People don’t see her as a singer,” a source told Us of Burke, who dropped out of the current season of DWTS after partner Tom DeLay was injured, “but she trained for her audition with one of the top vocal coaches in L.A.” The unnamed source added, "She's excited about the prospect of spending the holidays in New York. That's where her boyfriend [model Maxwell Zagorski] is based."
Burke, who reportedly saw a performance of the hit revival on November 2, had already visited Chicago at least once: She and ex-boyfriend Matthew Lawrence were photographed at the show in 2007 when his brother, DWTS contestant Joey Lawrence, was playing Billy Flynn. (For the record, Burke and football great Emmitt Smith defeated Joey and Edyta Sliwinska, who came in third that season. Burke also reigned as champ with Rent alum Drew Lachey as her partner.)
Chicago has previously welcomed Dancing with the Stars co-host Samantha Harris and contestants Jerry Springer, Lisa Rinna and John O’Hurley to the cast. If Burke spends the holidays on Broadway, she’ll have company: DWTS pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kym Johnson are headed to New York to join the cast of Burn the Floor on November 27.
